If the world can be expressed through equivalent exchange as the alchemists claim, then for future generations to be happy, as payment we must carry corpses on our backs through a river of blood.
Geez, Batty! Go for the jugular, why don't you, hahaha!
Okay, awful first!
Uuugh. She would be the most unhappy of campers. It's not the same sort of thing as Roy dying because Roy is not just a man to her. He's a beacon, a symbol, the centerpoint of her life in a lot of ways. But that is not to say she wouldn't feel Scar's death just as deeply. There was nothing ordained, nothing designed about their relationship. It was a series of coincidences and luck that allowed them to become close to one another as tenuous as she sometimes feels that relationship is, it is one that she values highly and he is one of the people she cares most about in Anatole.
So she would basically be inconsolable. She would probably blame herself somehow and retract into herself. She would probably take a leave of absence from all her jobs and hide in her room for a few days with the door locked. The severity of her seclusion would be directly related to how he died and whether or not she was there, but basically she would have to lock herself up to grieve where no one could see her. Roy is probably the only person who she would even open the door for in this instance.
After a few days of that, she would go back to work and attempt to resume her life as she knew it but there would definitely be a crack in her facade. She would probably seem at turns sadder and harder and she would be left with the permanent feeling that she lost something utterly irreplaceable.
And cute! I have actually given this some thought previous to your asking so I come prepared! I think if she were to get another pet, it would probably be a horse. She's kind of a one-dog girl and Hayate is preeeetty much her baby so she doesn't really feel like she needs another dog. Besides, with the Colonel and Allison, plus Mami's new puppy living in Outpost 2, there are plenty of pups in her life. But she does enjoy a challenge. Raising Hayate to be an obedient dog when she previously had little to no dog-training experience was just the sort of challenge she needed to keep her mind busy. But she's conquered that and has a ridiculously well-behaved dog who adores her now, so she wants something more difficult, haha. She likes horses and she grew up in a small town so there were no shortages of them in her village and she would be very interested in getting a horse to acknowledge her and obey her the way Hayate does.
Besides, a horse is also a practical pet! She can teach him to pull a cart or use him to get places faster than she could go on foot which is an issue for a girl who is always running around to save someone lmao. The sad thing is, I have already picked out a breed (with lots of pictures!) and a name for this horse she doesn't have. He has a damn BACKSTORY. She just... doesn't have him. Yet. >.> <.

Awful first: how would Riza feel/what would she think/do if Scar ever died?
Cute: if she had the chance to get another pet, what would it be? Another dog or something else?
